Thursday 10th August 2023 17:06

Run Cheltenham are pleased to announce Safran Landing Systems as title partner of Run Cheltenham, as we celebrate 10 years of Run Cheltenham in association with Safran.
Safran is an international high-technology group, operating in the aviation, defence and space markets. Safran harbours a longstanding commitment to a safer world, where air transport is more environmentally friendly, comfortable and accessible. The company has been a key employer in the area since 1935, and its presence has contributed to both the local economy and local community as a supporter of multiple projects and initiatives over the last 90 years.
Run Cheltenham, formerly Cheltenham’s Half Marathon, is an annual running festival in the beautiful town of Cheltenham. The event features multiple race distances and aims to promote the benefits of physical activity within the community whilst also creating a fundraising platform for a range of local and national causes.
As well as supporting the event as title partner, Safran have also chosen to support the event’s Headline Charity Partner, and Safran Landing Systems’ charity of the year, Sue Ryder. With a team of more than 50 runners on race day, Safran will be supporting Sue Ryder and ensuring that the team at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Hospice have the funds and resources to continue their outstanding work.
Head of WMP Sport, organisers of Run Cheltenham in association with Safran, Rupert Martin, had this to say: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming Safran onboard as our 2023 title partner. A prestigious local employer and supporter of the Cheltenham and Gloucester community, Safran share our vision for how this event can be a key milestone in the community calendar. Safran have been a key part of the local community as a responsible employer for the last 90 years, as well as supporting a huge range local causes, including our Headline Charity Partner, Sue Ryder. We took on the half marathon with a clear purpose to support local charities and communities and so Safran really are the perfect fit, and we thank them for helping us to deliver this fantastic local event.”
Andrew Devons, Finance Director, Safran Landing Systems in Gloucester said: “As a large historic local employer, we pride ourselves on supporting local charities. Not only do we support employees’ individual fundraising challenges for their personal charities, to date this year we have raised around £14,000 for our charity of the year, Sue Ryder. Our 50 runners will add to this total substantially. The charity has provided a lifeline to many of our employees and the incredible support the staff give to families at such a difficult time is invaluable. It is important that we do all we can to help Sue Ryder continue with their expert care and compassion.”
Safran will be on site at the event village on Sunday 3rd September, located at Cheltenham Racecourse for runners and residents to come along and learn about their work and career opportunities within the local area.
