RUN CHELTENHAM

Run Cheltenham is a fantastic charity fundraising event, providing a valuable source of income for a wide variety of local, regional and national charities. Each year, many of those taking part in this event raise thousands and thousands of pounds, and we fully expect to see that figure rise in 2022 once again.

The end of people’s lives should be filled with treasured memories, family and friends, kindness and love. But sadly, 1 in 4 families are not able to access the end of life care they need, which means this time can be filled with uncertainty, pain and struggle instead. Together we can change this.

Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice is Gloucestershire’s only inpatient unit for specialist palliative care. Last year, Sue Ryder Nurses and Leckhampton Court Hospice provided 130,000 hours of support to patients and their families. Our palliative care is free, but it costs us £3.6m per year to provide it, which equates to £10,000 per day.

Join #TeamSueRyder and help to make more space for love at the end of someone's life.

MAGGIE'S CHELTENHAM

Maggie's Logo wide.png

Maggie's in Cheltenham provides free practical, emotional, and social support for people living with cancer, their families, and friends. It is a place to find advice; to share experiences with others; or just to sit quietly with a cup of tea. For some people talking about their cancer is invaluable and can provide the support they need outside a clinical setting. For others the peer support they gain from other people is extremely important. And for some people, going to the hospital can be difficult so having somewhere comfortable to reflect can help them process news. Maggie’s provides space for all of this to happen.

Our unique programme of support is provided by an expert team, including Cancer Support Specialists, a Clinical Psychologist, and a Benefits Advisor and provides a variety of support, from practical (dealing with side effects, sleep, nutrition) to emotional (dealing with loss, incurable cancer diagnosis, stress) to financial (benefits advice, will-writing).

Built near the grounds of Cheltenham General Hospital, Maggie’s is designed to be warm, welcoming, and full of light and open space. There is no reception desk, no signs on the walls, no name badges, or uniforms. There are no clocks, as we want people to feel at home, stay as long as they need and come back as often as they like.

If you’re looking to do something amazing this year, join #TeamMaggies and run the Cheltenham half or 10k in support of those affected by cancer.

ACORNS CHILDREN'S HOSPICE

Acorns Wide.png

Acorns Children’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care for life limited and life threatened babies, children and young people and support for their families.

In the past year Acorns has supported 704 children and 940 families across the West Midlands from its three hospices, within the family home and the community.

Caring for a child with complex medical needs can place unimaginable demands on a family, both physically and emotionally. When time is short every moment is precious which is why, as well as providing specialist care, we help families to make lasting memories.

It costs around £10 million a year to run Acorns care services and we heavily rely on people like you in the community to fund our vital care services for local children and families.

If you’re looking to do something amazing this year, join #TeamAcorns and run the Half Marathon or 10km in support of Acorns Children’s Hospice.
